“Some years ago, I referred to her in a review as the epitome of poise and polish.
Now let me add passion to that list of superlatives.”
The Straits Times, Singapore
Widely regarded as one of Singapore’s leading pianists, she crafts recital and concerto programmes that bring classical works, contemporary music and her own compositions into a single, deeply human narrative.
Her performances have taken her from opening the Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s season with Grieg’s Piano Concerto to appearing as pianist at Singapore’s SG60 National Day Parade, and in 2025 she will give the world premiere of a new piano concerto by Jonathan Shin with the SSO. Her recordings include two albums of original music reimagining classical pieces, Ephemory and LUNA, as well as Spectrum with violinist Stanislav Pronin on Sony Classical.
A graduate of the Yale School of Music and the University of Cambridge, where she earned two Master’s degrees in music and philosophy, Churen is Artist Faculty at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and Artist-in-Residence at Sunway University. She continues to develop projects that blur the lines between concert, collaboration and contemporary culture.
